Name That Kitten
On Saturday, Danielle and I visited a ragdoll breeder. She was very nice. The cats are neat. I ended up putting a deposit on a kitten. I'll bring him home on April 9th.

Ragdolls are probably the largest domestic cat breed (although savannah and Maine coon breeders claim the same). With any luck, my kitten will grow to be about 20 pounds. I will then train him to tackle intruders.

I'm still trying to think of a good name. Right now I'm leaning towards "Misha". Any suggestions?

Hey there,

That kitten is adorable!

I came across your journal on my friends page. I have 5 Raggies of my own. My mom used to breed Ragdolls and they really are awesome cats. They get very attached to their owners and sometimes follow you everywhere like a puppy.

I have two very good friends who breed Ragdolls now, but we are in New England.

Here is a picture of my biggest Ragdoll, Boku. He will be 13 this month. The smaller guy is his half-brother, Kodiak.

Such handsome boys. How much do they each weigh?

Boku is about 20lbs and Kody is closer to 15.

We're really hoping that this little guy will eventually out weigh the dog who is only 16 pounds (should be only 14) and full grown. The dog is pretty docile, but we don't want him getting any funny ideas about his new feline brother. Especially because ragdolls, as a breed, are known to not fight back.

You are exactly right; Ragdolls are very laid back. My friend Pam, who breeds Ragdolls has a MinPin and used to have a Pug. They loved the cats and even slept in kitty beds with them.

It will really depend upon the line you are getting the cat from as far as the size goes. Did you get to see the kitten's parents? Ragdolls can also take a few years to mature and reach their full size.

We saw the momma cat in person and the daddy in picture form on the website the breeder has. Momma was good size for a female.

The dog has been around cats from time to time when visiting other peoples homes. But he's never experienced a kitten. We're a little wary what might happen when the two meet.

Once the dog gets used to the kitten, I am sure they will be best buddies.

When you pick up the kitten, see if the breeder can give you a copy of the kitten's pedigree. It is always good to have just in case.

Nierin ("Noble" in Welsh), Flynn (Celtic surname meaning "son of a red-haired man"), and Carmine (from Laverne and Shirley...Carmine Ragusa...The Big Ragoo" but it also means "garden") are my suggestions.

He's a ragdoll

Doesn't matter what you end up naming him he'll still be "the big ragoo" to me.

I also like Errol, which is how I got to Flynn (forgot to mention that) and it means "wandering"

It just sounds regal to me, not because of the deceased actor

That kitten is beautiful and I think Misha is a great name for him. Will you be keeping the house your in or moving back to an apartment?

my friend Jen wants to know if you will breed her so that she can have one!!

No, we're going to have him fixed as early as possible.

There are all kinds of ragdoll breeders around who would happily sell Jen a kitten. It's a pretty popular breed these days.
