More Voting!

Is it unethical to ask people to help you win a popularity contest?

No way! Do everything you can to win!
No, as long as you follow the established rules.
Yes. You should win on merit alone, not aggressive promotion.
What are these "ethics" you speak of?
I hate you.

Sorry, dear heart. A popularity contest measures the number of positive emotional reactions that a mass of humanity has towards one target, not just how many people recognize the name of a person competing in it. If that were not so, then all elections should automatically be won by the candidate who spends the most amount of money to advertise his or her name, right? No, the public still has a nagging desire in the back of its collective heart to advocate a meritocracy, and likes the contest results best when the winner happens to be both the most-liked and the most-famous.

If you want an example of how soliciting votes without backing them up with merit can fail, see the example of Sharon Stone and the Golden Globe awards.

Well, I actually believe that Juliecam is better (or as good as) the other seventy-nine finalists.

Although we're still losing to The Bailey's by about ten votes. If they win, I'd say that's pretty far from a meritocratic system.

FWIW, I voted for Zippyweb. The Baileys is literally and figuratively flashy, but I don't care for it. Here's the deal-maker...pet videos. Put up short films of Pixel doing bunches of cute things and you'll get the cat fan vote in a heartbeat. See, now that's Added Value. I like Juliecam in a technical sense, it loads nice and fast but the content just isn't playful enough. So, Pixel videos, Jarret and Julie paper dolls, and I'll personally abandon all principle and stuff the voting box until it crashes.

That's the most constructive advice I've ever gotten.

Now to start training the cat to do cute things...
