Uhhh, okay

I'm assuming that you DID read the link you provided to understand the tinting purpose and how that's a great innovation to previous model designs. Now, remembering my days when I used to sell projection TVs, I can tell you that that thin shield does provide great protection from anything SCORRING or SCRATCHING the display face! Those plastic sheets utilize unique light bending designs to bring out the image. Use to be if you weren't sitting DIRECTLY in front center... you saw practically nothing on he screen. Well... our biggest problem was when a kid or customer would run his fingers across the screen, or thee new guy would dust and clean the sets. Any cut, scrape or marring of that screen... which is all too easy to do... becomes light-reflective... glowing with reflection if the set is off; blurring the image noticably when the set is on. Immediately drops the price cause it looks damaged; those sheets cost like $300 each too. I hope you know what you're doing by taking that shield off, Jarrett. Considering the cat and your get-togethers... it could become a costly gamble.

Re: Uhhh, okay

I'm going to have to be more selective about who I invite to our get-togethers from now on!

I hear what you're saying, though. But Mitsubishi is full of crap saying that the sheild makes the picture look better. The difference is so dramatic, I'm willing to take my chances with the exposed lenticular screen. We don't have any kids, and the cat could care less about the TV.
