Did you know that the meter was originally defined by France around the turn of the 19th century? They decided that you get a meter by drawing a line from the North Pole to the equator that passes through Paris, then divide it by ten million, and that gives you one meter.

Although today, the meter is officially defined in terms of the speed of light in a vacuum (a universal constant), the circumference of the Earth around the polls is still almost exactly 40,000 kilometers (four ten million meter quadrants).

I'm checking out the new Semagic LiveJournal client for Win2K.

I must say I'm impressed.

I like the icons and login screen graphic especially. I drew them. :P
