My Twenty-Sixth Birthday in Review

I turned twenty-six on Saturday, as you may have noticed. Thank you to all the LJers who sent me birthday wishes. They are most appreciated.

So you may be asking, “What did you do on your special day?” I spent a good portion of the day in my pajamas, being lazy and watching television. But that’s not too unusual for any Saturday in my life. I invited some friends over for a little low-key birthday celebration, and it turned into a swinging little shindig. I'd say about fifteen or twenty people showed up, and some of them even brought gifts! So, it turns out you can throw yourself a surprise party if you have enough friends and you're into last minute planning.

The highlight of the evening came as things seemed to be winding down. Local musicians (and personal friends) Hence Phillips and Nick Kantar showed up with acoustic guitars and harmonicas. They set up right in my living room and started jamming away. These guys are just excellent musicians and great guys. It made the whole evening. After they played awhile we crammed into my office and we all jammed together (me on piano) and had a sing-along with the straggling partygoers until nearly two in the morning. It was probably the most fun I've ever had on my birthday.

And no one took a single photo, so you'll just have to use your imagination this time.

I think on Thursday I'm gonna go check out Hence playing with the Jackie Greene band. It's the least I could do for the hours of free entertainment he provided on Saturday.

Anyway, thanks again for the birthday greetings. You guys are awesome.
