On the DISH Network website they have information on the new HD receiver... the DISH Player-DVR 921. (PDF Brochure)

It's got a DVR (Tivo-like digital video recorder) built in. It's got two dish receivers in it. It does picture in picture. You can pause and rewind live TV. You can record two shows at once while watching a pre-recorded show. It can record high-definition television. Did you hear me? It can record high-definition television. 25 hours worth.

It costs $999.00.

Hell, I made $4000 in trade agreements for our wedding vendors. I can spend $1000 on myself, right? If that sounds like a weak rationalization, don't worry, I can come up with a dozen more weak rationalizations.

It will be mine. Oh yes... it will be mine.

I called our local satellite retailer and asked about the DVR 921. He said they don't expect to have them in until January. I was like, "So, what... the day after tomorrow?"

He said maybe next week.

There was more good news / bad news. The good news is that they usually sell receivers for less than the MSRP. The bad news is that the receiver will require a second line to be run into the house from the dishes. I'm no good with coax and F-connectors, so that means I'll have to have them come out and rig that, which will probably cost another $100 or so, and add in a few bucks for the DishPro 34 switch. Plus I imagine that DISH Network is going to want to charge me more a month for the "second" reciever, but I'm not sure on that one. I mean, c'mon, it's still just one television.
