I think I'd like to learn how to cook.

But I live alone, so I have nobody to cook for. Plus, I don't like most food. I'm a weird, picky eater.

I should learn to make a really good macaroni salad or something. So then when I get invited to picnics, people might say, "I hope Jarrett brings his homemade macaroni salad again." How hard can it be? Cook up some macaroni, throw in some Miracle Whip... voilà!

I do enjoy a good macaroni salad.

mm.. yea, I make great macaroni salad. Potato salad too, the dressing can be similiar. Start experimenting with recipes that include ingredients you like. Always invite people to come over and help you eat what you make, they'll offer a critique as well as help eat the food. You'll be a hit at parties, and able to eat fabulously for a fraction of what people have to spend on not as yummy food in resturants.

This one looks like a good basic potato salad recipe. I'd say four or five potato's is about 2lbs. When I make potato salad, I figure a potato per person.

Half of the battle in cooking is technique, which is why shrubber and I watch FoodTV endlessly. Watching *how* they mix the ingredients or *how* they peel the garlic has helped a lot.

So.. peel and cube the potato's before you boil them. Don't boil them too long because you don't want mashed potato salad (or maybe you do, that's yummy too) And let the potato's cool before you mix the dressing in with them. I usually fridge them for a half hour or so. Mix up the dressing, pour over the potato's and turn lightly with a spatula, that way the potato doesn't break down. Make it the night before, so the ingredients have a chance to mix with each other. The vineger used could be white vineger as well it will still be good.

oh yes, I wouldn't be shy about adding a clove of garlic to this recipe. Peel and then mash it with the back of a knife. IMHO, garlic makes everything better.

This one looks like a good macaroni salad. I'd substitute italian salad dressing for the oil, and Best Foods mayo. Same technique with the potato salad, don't overcook the pasta, let it cool before you mix in, make the night before. Also, get some *fabulous* pasta for this recipe, something curly with color!!

According to that recipe, one pound of macaroni is used to make one serving of macaroni salad. Must be the main course.

You can either learn to cook the things you like while you're single or find a wife that will eat your experiments. The former is easier, trust me.

If I had a wife, I wouldn't need to cook at all! Isn't that the whole point?

I suppose that you are either assuming that all wives can cook, or requiring that your wife must be able to cook.
