Interactive Decorating with Jarrett

Okay, so I talked a little bit about getting new furniture for my bedroom, but I've been starting to think about the big picture. I need to do some serious decorating. All my gay friends are not as helpful as I thought they might be. Either that's just a misleading stereotype, or they're all predisposed as hairdressers instead. Anyway, here's a photo of my bedroom as it is now. I have curtains and decent bedding, but no furniture or wall art.

So, I Photoshopped in some furniture and wall art. I like the mission style furniture because it has all the clean straight lines. I've decided to use black and white photography on the walls, but it will need a nice rich color to contrast against. I want my bedroom to feel warm and inviting without being too, y'know, gay. But I can't decide what color to paint the walls. I am presenting you, the viewing public, with three choices:

Click on an image to take a closer look at each one (and admire my mad Photoshop skillz).

So, what I really need to know is this: If you were a chick, which color on the walls would make you most likely to want to sleep with me?
Poll #77083 Interactive Decorating

Which color is your favorite?

I like #1 best.
I like #2 best.
I like #3 best.
Leave the walls white.

Thank you for your help!

i like #1 simply because it's the richest color the others seem to have too much green in them for my taste but i guess it's personal preference. :)

Looks like the majority agrees with you.

It's not "gay", it looks like a properly decorated room. I like #1.

I'd go with #3. The first one looks to hotel-ish.

Are those animal food dishes in the nightstand cubby?

I believe they are stacks of books and magazines.

I'm big on painting and decorating these days. I think #3 is by far the best! The color looks great with that hanging plant too!

But all the ladies are choosing #1.

Ooooh, I like them all. It's going to be hard to choose.

You'll have to go with #2 or #3. I'm currently painting my living room with the color from #1 and bringing in accents of high intensity adusted red with punches of low value adjusted orange colors.

Wait, so I can't use #1 cause you're using it already? Or is your living room turning out bad?
latitude11 From: latitude11 Date: November 20th, 2002 12:16 pm (UTC) (Link)
I'm using it.. and at first glace you will say, 'oh my god.. my room looks like baby poo!!'

I'm using very sparingly random highlights of a higher value color sponged over the base coat and the crown moldings are a creamy yellow based off white. Once the furniture, window coverings and art are brought in.. I am confident it will all come together nicely. It actually already has a warm tuscany feel to it.

Just remember.. your room won't always look like baby poo. Think of it more as cookie colored.

Yeah, if I turn off the Photoshop layers of the furniture and the decorations, I can see how the room will look with just that color paint, and it's really scary. But I think that will only motivate me to spend the cash on the furniture and the rest of the decor.

Um... I would like to point out, however, that YOU will be living with the color... and I am sure the chicks will back me up ont this... the girl already decided if she was going to sleep with you or not LONG before she got to your room.

It was a joke, sir. No one is going to tell me what to do. I'd be happy with any of the colors, I was just looking for outside opinions.

Right on... and did I mention - mad skillz? Jebus! I wish I was 1/2 that good with photoshop!
jarrett From: jarrett Date: November 20th, 2002 01:18 pm (UTC) (Link)
Well, y'know, that's what I do. I've been using Photoshop for a long, long time.

I did all the compositing in about a half hour, just quick and dirty.

It's fitting that those mad skillz will eventually buy me all the nice stuff in the phony picture.

Dude, you really scare me with your Photoshop skills, you know that?

That said, I like #1 and #2. Actually, I like them all--but #3 doesn't strike me as "you". #1 looks a lot more "warm and cozy" for the winter time. #2 is somewhere in the middle. #3 is too much green.

And maybe a vote for the "gay" part just because you're putting so much effort into this... guess I really don't fit the stereotype :-)

I like number one, except for the hangling plant. Hanging plants are very last year so are ficus trees. Something big in a pot like Yucca or a Palm will look great in a corner.

And no shiz, but my bedroom is the nearly the exact same color as #1 and my living room, well one big wall in my living room is the exact same color as #2.

The colors I have in my bedroom that look good with #1 is dark reds, tans and browns. Bedding is a light tan and then I have a quilt with the reds and browns that I hang over the bottom like your black throw. My bed is kind of mission style, all slats but it doesn't have the crossbar over the top of the slats and I have the exact same white bedside lamps. Freaky.

Cool. I guess we both have good taste then. :)

# 1

Well I don't have to imagine that I am a chick cause I am one, and I won't comment on the other part *wink* but my vote is for #1 as you already know. I can't remember who commented on the hanging plant vs. ficus or some other kind of large plant. But I think a ficus (if you can keep it alive or clean if it's fake) is better than a hanging plant too.
