Good morning, everybody. How about that weather, eh? Yesterday it… - Jarrett Heather
Jarrett Heather's Journal
Good morning, everybody.

How about that weather, eh? Yesterday it was almost 90° F here in Sacramento. It was a record temperature for this time of the year (yay for global warming). Today it's supposed to cool off a little then get much cooler through the weekend. It sure would be nice to have some fall weather before we jump right into winter. Around here, winter means rain. I don't like the rain.

Of course the folks down in SoCal would probably like to see some rain. In case you hadn't heard, half the state is on fire right now.

So, Danielle and I have been busy doing the wedding planning thing still. We got our DJ. We're working on finding the right photographer. After that I think we can relax for a couple months and just try to save some a whole lot of cash. Anyone want to donate to the cause? Send a check or money order. We need it.

I didn't manage to save a dime last month. After paying for the new wheels I went ahead and dropped three hundred bones (or clams, or whatever you call them) on an alarm system for my car. But it's pretty nifty, and it helps me to sleep better at night knowing it would take a crook an extra 30 seconds to actually steal my car. Seriously, I know that most people think alarms are useless, but luckily my parking spot is only 10 or 15 meters from our bedroom. And the alarm is definitely loud.

So anyway, on to less important matters...

I bought a new video game that I'm enjoying quite a bit. Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge for the Xbox. The game is... great. You basically fly around in a plane and shoot at things, but the graphics, sound, story and everything else are just excellent. If you have an Xbox, you need this game. If you don't have an Xbox, then you need to buy an Xbox and this game. Besides, I need some more friends with Xbox LIVE so I can kick their asses and taunt them.

Oh, I do have one gripe about this game. I bought it on Friday, but when I got home and tried to play it, the disc wouldn't run. I went back and exhanged it, but now it runs for a half hour or an hour before it decides to quit. So I have to go back and exchange it again. I guess they just got a bad batch of discs, but it's quite annoying. My Xbox plays all my other games just fine.

Have you heard of There? It's like a new online game for the PC, but they don't call it a game... they call it an "online getaway". It's like a virtual world where you socialize instead of slaying dragons. It looks pretty interesting. It just went from beta to limited access, and Danielle and I have been invited to join. So we're going to check it out. Go check out their site and sign up. Maybe we'll see you there... in There.

not to sound bitchy, (but it will) but why don't you not buy video games and toys and save up for the wedding? *shrug*

a.) The video games don't really affect the big picture. What I paid for Crimson Skies is less than it will cost to feed a single guest at the reception. The car alarm is an expense ($325) it would have been nice to avoid, but I decided it was a necessity and a good investment.

b.) Video games are a very cost effective means of entertainment. Say I take Danielle to the movies. That's about $30 for 2 hours fun. A video game costs $50, but a good multi-player one like Crimson Skies will get more than a hundred hours of use. The fun per dollar ratio is very high.

I could go a step further and compare it to a trip to the casino. $400 in 2 hours is a much, much lower fun per dollar ratio. You won't catch me spending money that foolishly. I think my one or two video games a month can stay in the budget.

What? I'm not pissed off. Don't be so sensitive.

Sorry you're having a bad day, hon.

oh, i misunderstood then. I was about to send you a 'i'm sorry' e-card; I thought the bite back about my casino trip was cuz you were mad.

Again, I've just had a bad day, and again I apoligise for taking it out on you.

I'm taking a LJ break. Much needed.

I'm digging "There" especially since I met Melly_Belly and she hooked me up with some fly clothes, shoes, contacts, and lipstick.

Though one person in the game mentioned that "Second Life" is better.

Have you heard of it?
