Do you know where your name came from? I mean, why you are named as you are?

My dad told me that he saw a rerun of a TV western called The Big Valley around the time that he and my mom were thinking up names. One of the main characters on the show was called Jarrod Barkley. Dad kind of liked the name Jarrod, so they looked it up in the baby name book and found the variant "Jarrett", which ultimately was chosen, of course. Which is good, because I'm able to avoid comparison to Jared, the Subway guy.

Thanks to my Y-chromosome, I also avoided going through life as Lindsay Elizabeth. I don't know where they came up with that one, and I suppose now it's irrelevant.

An interesting coincidence: The Big Valley was set in the 1870's near Stockton, California, the city I ended up in when I first moved to California back in 1998. Also, Jerrod Barkley was a lawyer, and I'm a website developer. Spooky.

My maiden name is Green.

I was born the day after St. Patrick's Day.

My folks thought it might be cute to name me after a shade of green. Thus, Kelly Green was born.

Jade would have been a cool name.

If you were a boy, were they going to name you Forrest?

My middle name (maren) is after a tour guide my mother had on a vacation in hawaii. i believe the only things she knew about this woman were that her name is maren and she's a tour guide in hawaii.

I don't know if there was a particular reason my parents came up with "Shaun"--other than the spelling, I think they just wanted to be different. I was given my dad's middle name as my middle name... Wayne.

Shaun Wayne... John Wayne. Fortunately everyone got tired of that one after second grade.

my name's very much a family name. my first name is cuz a lot of people on my dad's side (including my great-grandfather) were named john. my middle name is my dad's first name.

my sister, who was the first/only girl born in our family was named partially after the wife of the great-grandfather i was named after. apparently they were pretty cool people. and her middle name is my mom's name.

my brother, however--i have no idea where the hell they got his name.

Steve - Steve Austin, The 6-Million Dollar Man

The TV show that was on while my mother was in labor, and she had the hots for him anyways.

It was either that or Elvis.

If it was a girl.

Lindsay was after Lindsay Wagner, the bionic woman. (do you see a kind of a TV theme here? Feel lucky that you're not named Gilligan) Elizabeth was after your great Aunt, whom I was close to. TEH3
